Spring Wedding Hatfield House
I have been in the honoured position of photographing many beautiful weddings at Hatfield House, but this was my first with the beautiful wisteria in full bloom and it certainly made the most beautifulof backdrops to our photographs even on such a windy day with storm Hannah giving us a full blast.
Sarah & Steve were the most wonderful of couples and it was a joy to work with them. They have kindly shared their wedding day with me and I hope you will enjoy and maybe even find the information helpful when planning your big day.
Why you choose Hatfield House as your wedding venue?
We went round a few different venues and there were a couple that myself and Steve liked and then others that my parents liked, so we were really trying to find something in the middle. When we walked into the Old Palace at Hatfield House we really felt the wow factor, and even though we didn’t get to use them a lot, the gardens played a big factor in our choosing of the old palace as well. We were looking for a sense of exclusivity with the venue where we had the place to ourselves and Hatfield House offered that where places like Luton Hoo and St Michaels Manor did not. We also just loved the feel of the grand hall and my Mum and Dad loved the history of the place.
Bridal Gown – (Designer and shop) Catherine Deane in Wapping, London. Being a curvaceous lass I really found it a bit soul destroying going to bridal shops where they only had size 10/12 dress available to try on. I’m a size 14/16 & at Catherine Deane they had three sample sizes for you to try. These sizes being 6,10,14, so all people who have different shaped figures could try on dresses. Highly recommended.
Bridal Hair Piece – My hair piece was done by a lady called Ana Vivero who I stumbled across whilst visiting one of my bridesmaids in Barcelona. She designs bespoke hair pieces.
Brides Shoes – ASOS. Cheap and cheerful, I actually bought them in the sale for £22! I wanted to dance with ease, so when it came to dancing I slipped into my white converse shoes. I really love a good dance & what better occasion than our wedding day?!?
Bridesmaids Dress – I wanted my bridesmaids to feel at ease, comfortable & happy with their dresses. The only specification is that the dresses were to be blush pink. We had three dresses from ASOS, Warehouse & Oasis.
Groomsmen’s suits – We decided to rent our Groomsmen’s suits, this way they were all the same & they could be measured to fit their body. We decided to rent the suits from Debenhams, an easy process for the groomsmen going to their local Debenham’s, being measured & then picking them up the day before the wedding.
Grooms Suits – We bought Steve’s suit from M&S. They offered a free tailoring service which wasn’t actually required in the end, and offered plenty of helpful advice.
Florist – Lambert’s in Welwyn Garden City . We shopped around for flowers & got three quotes from different suppliers. We chose Lambert’s because they were super friendly, reasonably priced & happy to deliver in our request in creating something different with lots of vibrant flowers.
Hair and make up – A friend of a friend, Shauna Taggart kindly did our hair & make up on the morning. As we were having a church wedding she didn’t have much time & was all on her own. She kept calm when we started to run out of time & listened to what I wanted & what I was most nervous about.
Wedding Cars – We wanted something rather lush to arrive to the church & to Hatfield House in. The driver was ever so friendly, providing mints, bottles of water & going the longer way round to the venue from church, so we could have more time to ourselves.
Wedding Cake – Meribelle Cakes by Sarah – can be found on Facebook. The cake was a big part of the day, we both LOVE cake!! We also needed to get one layer as Gluten Free for my Mum and a few other guests. Sarah listened to what we wanted, made suggestions on what we could do & the best part…it tasted amazing!
Wedding stationary – All provided by Hatfield House as part of the package, I believe the company are called V Stationary. They provided the Menus and place names. We made our own Table Names and Table plan just to make it a bit more personal to us.
musician’s – Reception Cara Beard created a great ambience at our reception. Lawrence Hill such a great entertainer with an amazing voice. Happily learnt our Father John Misty first dance song & sent it to us to keep. Both artists we actually chose from seeing them live in our local pub the White Horse in Welwyn, a great way to find musicians we found because you see them in their natural element
Our Photographer – We met Julia at the Hatfield House wedding fair and we immediately got a good feeling from her and she made us feel at ease. On the day everyone was very complimentary of Julia, she offers a perfect mix of a relaxed feel but also an element of strictness as she realises that there are certain photos that just need to get taken. Whilst the photos were important to us, as was enjoying every minute of the big day and Julia totally took that into account. She made us both feel very relaxed and calm as standing in front of a camera is not something that comes exactly naturally to either of us.
Best memory of your wedding day – Difficult to choose. We both loved the Ceremony in the church and making our vows in front our friends and family in a church that has become very special to us with a vicar that we have spent a lot of time with. The speeches were amazing too and dancing the night away.
Any advice to future couples planning a wedding – Spreadsheets, the more organised you are from day one, the easier it is from there. Don’t spend every waking minute doing wedding things, just start well in advance and enjoy the planning, you only get to do this once (hopefully!).
Anything you would change – Not a thing.
Below are a few of the beautiful memories I have captured from Sarah & Steve’s Wedding.
