Questions to ask your wedding photographer!

Questions to ask your wedding photographer?

Love your wedding Photographer!

The relationship with your wedding photographer is so very important. Your photographer will spend more time with you than any other wedding professional on your wedding day so you want to get on with them.

Do I like this person and can I see myself getting on with them through out the planning and on our wedding day?

When your relationship is one of a partnership and both parties equally invested in the success of your wedding day. Communication is absolutely key giving a clear picture of what you want and don’t want. At the end of the day you are inviting your photographer to capture your memories through their eyes!.

Availability

Is my wedding date available ? Before you dig too deep into questioning your prospective photographer you want o make sure they are available on your wedding day..

Will you be the photographer at our wedding or would it be an associate? – Some wedding photography businesses have different levels of photographers a bit like going to the hair dressers. Associate photographers may not have as much experience as the senior photographer but they will possibly have cheaper pricing? Always ask and never assume!

Will you have an assistant with you? – An assistant is different to a second shooter. An assistant will be there to just help the photographer they would be taking any photographs in most cases. A photographer may deem that due to logistics of your wedding or the high number of guests that a second photographer would be advisable but this in most cases adds additional cost to your photography budget.

Experience

How long have you been photographing weddings? I would suggest also getting a idea of how many weddings over this time they have photographed. Some photographers may have been in business for a number of years but only shoot a couple of weddings a year (especially if they are a part time wedding photographer)

Are you a full time wedding photographer? Some wedding photographers do this on the side to a full time job especially if they are just starting out.

Can I see some full wedding galleries of your recent weddings? Viewing a couple the photographers full wedding gallery will give you an idea of what images they create. You can see how they photograph group photographs and give you an idea of the story they create. Most photographers will be happy to share this with you.

Have you photographed at our wedding venue? While it can help if your photographer has worked at your wedding venue and experienced wedding photographer will be more than capable of photographing a wedding venue they haven’t worked at before. (On that point for my wedding couples I aways visit their wedding venue with them so we all know where we can do photographs!).

Style

How would you describe your photography style? These days there are a lot of different styles from editorial, reportage, classical to storytelling! look at the photographers portfolio and ask yourself Will I love this style in 1o years from now? It can be tempting to go for the latest instagram trend but just consider how this will look in 5, 10 or 15 years and will this date your wedding? Timeless never goes out of fashion.

How would you describe your working style? Getting an idea of how your photographer works will help you aline your wedding photography with your wedding vibe. Are you looking for lots of family group photographs or would you prefer your photographer to work diligently in the background.

Pricing and Packages

What is included in your packages? You want to know exactly is included in your wedding photography package.

For example, The length of time your photographer will be with you. Is travel included or what radius of travel. Vat! Digital photograph. Wedding Album. Second photographer. An engagement shoot. In some cases you can add items to your package or after your wedding you can add wedding albums or wall art.

Can I customise a package to fit my needs? Some photographers will offer the option to create a package to suit your needs its always worth asking.

CanI request retouching of the photographs?

Prints and Albums

Can we order Prints and Albums directly from you? Because technology moves at a fast pace having a wedding album is priceless. Professional wedding albums and prints offer a quality that will stand the test of time.

Will high resolution digital files be included? High resolution images is what you will require if you want to print the photographs yourself. Some photographers will also give you the images in low resolution suitable for sharing on social media etc

How long after the wedding will we receive the images? Delivery times will depend on your photographer always ask.

Logistics

How do we book you? A professional photographer will have a complete booking process. A contract is very important to help cover you.

How much of a deposit is required?

When will the final balance be required?

Will we get a sneak peek of our wedding photos?

Social media? If you prefer your wedding photographs not to be shared on social media always mention this.

How will you dress for our wedding? Maybe not the most important questions to some but if you want your photographer to blend in having the in a smilier attire to your dress code will help.

What Insurance cover do you have? All professional wedding photographers should have public liability insurance.

I hope these questions to ask your wedding photographer will help you find the perfect photographer for you. If you would like to know more about working with me please take a look at my contact page where I have answered most of these questions.
