How to pose for wedding photos

Wedding Planning

Hatfield House Wedding

How to feel natural in front of the camera with these gorgeous poses.

If I had a pound for every time a couple look at my portfolio of work and say how beautiful the photographs are .. We will never look that good we are just not photogenic!. Ooh I would be oh so rich!..

I’m going to let you into a secret .. the trick to natural relaxed wedding photos is to hardly pose at all.. What how No Never! Well ok maybe not totally unposed the key is to have the best location lay out your dress and then relax in the moment of being with the one you love. As your photographer I will gently give you some directions to interact with each other.

As most of your wedding day is spend with friends and family this precious time together is a time for you to catch up and enjoy some intimacy away form the eyes of everyone.

Tips for posing naturally

Candid moments are perfect for natural photographs of you together .. one tip is to not end the moment too soon, stay laughing and giggling, If you are inclined to do something or move in a natural way don’t stop, don’t ask just do it. So often I have a couple smiling and laughing perfectly, oblivious of the world around them enjoying their time together and this is just perfect for natural wedding photos.

How do we Kiss?

Having a camera in your face when kissing is a little disconcerting, I find by keeping a distance from my couple and the camera not in their faces really helps. A gentle almost kiss is always beautiful, keeping your eyes closed and enjoy the tenderness of the moment. Try not to squish each others noses. If in doubt kiss naturally.

Tell me your preferences ..

One mistake couples make is when it comes to communicating their preferences. We all have area’s of ourselves we like less than others so please let us photographers know. I once had a bride ask me not to tell her husband to be that she asked me not to photograph her profile as she hated her noes and she hoped I didn’t think she was being silly. I was so appreciative of her honesty and thanked her for sharing this with me. Its far easier for me to avoid photographing things you don’t like or lessen them while photographing you rather than being told this while you are looking at your photographs.

A lot of brides are self – conscious of their arms if this is really something you are there are a couple of points to consider.. maybe cover your arms sleeves on wedding dresses are very elegant .. a few don’t that will help .. don’t push your arms against your body, while holding the bouquet keep arms relaxed and elongated. Try keeping your arms as relaxed as possible.

Choose a wedding photographer you feel relaxed and comfortable with…

By far the biggest tip I can offer you in knowing how to pose for your wedding photos is in your choice of wedding photographer.

If you feel relaxed when holding a conversation and they get as excited about your wedding as you do. They understand your vision of your wedding day and the photographs you want then chances are you will be on the right track to getting the best photographs of your wedding day.

I recently had a bride open up to me that she had booked her wedding photographer in a bit of a hurry afraid as she had a popular wedding date and afraid she would find a wedding photographer available. She was following me on instagram and finally plucked the courage to say to her fiancee that she didn’t like the photographer she had chosen and that she really wanted me as her wedding photographer .. following a long conversation they agreed it was better to change their photographer than regret it later .. after the wedding they both agreed it was the best decision they had made for their wedding.

When is the best time for natural wedding photos?

Early evening after the wedding speeches and before the 1st dance is usually a great time for photos of you together.

You know your day has gone to plan so far and your formal duties are nearly over. With the 1st Dance all thats left to do is get the dance floor in full swing and dance the night away.
