Advice for rain on your wedding day

Wedding Planning

It would be fair to say that no coupe wants rain on their wedding day!. But the weather is one aspect you have very little control of. As a photographer I do keep an eye on the weather but will always have a plan.

Here are a few tips I have picked up over the years and my advice for rain on your wedding day..

Choosing your venue.

i) If the weather is a worry to you firstly look at your choice of wedding venue. Ask the wedding co-ordinator what the venue would do if it were to rain on your wedding day. View the area where your drinks reception would take place and ask where photographs can be taken. Think about the number of guests you are having and make sure there is enough space so everyone can move around. Check there will be enough space inside for your wedding photos to take place.

Create a plan b

ii) A professional wedding photographer will always have a plan b for bad weather. The weather isn’t always limited to rain! A very windy day can be just as uncomfortable as well as a scorching hot one! My suggestion is to aways talk through the plan for your wedding day with your photographer. In my case I generally meet my couples at their wedding venue so I can talk through all the options so the weather is the last of their worries and the photographs will always be amazing.

iii) In many cases you may get some rain in the morning or evening of your wedding day but for many the rain won’t be all day and night.

Embrace your wedding day whatever the weather

iv) Should the worst happen and it does rain all day embrace the plan b and maybe grab an umbrella and create so magical rain photographs. In the cases I have had rain stop us getting outside for any couple photographs I have arranged to meet with my couple the day after to get beautiful couple portraits in the grounds of their wedding venue.

Lastly my biggest advice for rain on your wedding day is to try not to worry! The weather is the one thing we cannot control so focus on what you can and enjoy the love and laughter you will be sure to have on your very special wedding day.
